PROTECT WILDLIFE - HAVE YOUR SAY |
Ideas are being sought on ways to help protect the country's wildlife. Warwickshire County Council wants to know residents' views on how to look after the area's fuana and flora. Principle ecologist Dave Lowe said, 'Wildlife is under threat, mainly due to climate and agricultural changes. If a landowner fills up a pond then the creatures who live around it such as frogs or toads have to find somewhere else to live and feed, or they will die. Finding out what people want preserved is importnat as it gives us as idea of where to apply our resources. We do want to encourage as many people as possible to have their say.' BLAST YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR |
If you believe, along with BLAST, that the WDC must say ' no' to any proposal that would lead to building on green belt or allotments in North Leamington - then email or write to the Councillors, you will find all their contacts on www.warwickdc.gov.uk/committee . If we all email or write to all the WDC councillors they might get the message and vote in our favour at their Planning Meeting scheduled for December. For guidance on the content of your email/letter read Campaign Strategy. |

BLAST GETS WHOLEHEARTED SUPPORT |
"Both the Royal Leamington Spa Town Council and Warwick District Council Liberal Democrats responded to Options for Growth by vigorously supporting the retention of all allotments, especially those threatened in Leamington. We hope this threat will now recede & become a thing of the past. Allotments and wholesomely grown local produce is a key element in our national push for sustainability & coping with the high cost of oil & transport - we support you wholeheartedly. Allotment land should be excluded from any option because of its enormous amenity and ecological value. This is particularly true of the allotment land to the north of Leamington Spa." Best wishes, Cllr Roger Copping (Lib/Dem Manor Ward, Warwick District Council & Leamington Spa Town Council) |

JOIN THE GREEN BELT WELLY WALK |
Remember, remember Sunday 23rd November if you want to save our green belt and allotments in north Leamington. We plan to Welly Walk from Northumberland Road across the green belt fields to Old Milverton - have some speeches - then on to Old Milverton and Cliffe Allotments for walk & talk around before returning to Binswood and New Milverton Allotments to see more plots under threat where the walk will end. November could be wet and muddy so if you join us on this protest walk you will need your wellies - put this date in your diary turn up to give the builders, bulldozers and WDC a bit of welly! Our key date is 10th December 2008 the WDC Strategy Meeting when they will decide which Option goes forward. It is important that at that meeting the vote is similar to the Leamington Town Council unanimous vote to exclude all allotments and green belt from future development plans. To this end all our energies must be given, this is the only aim of this campaign, other side issues, although they may be of interest to us and certain groups, they must not detract or weaken our main message to Blast the Bulldozers off Leamington Allotments and Protect the Green Belt. Possible Activities: An ongoing PR campaign with the local media, papers & radio gearing them up to the December date Writing to all the WDC councillors as individuals and as the B.L.A.S.T. committee asking them to support our campaign Producing from website graphics leaflets, car stickers, posters etc to keep cost to the minimum while communicating our theme to the local community. Utilising existing websites, Binswood and New Milverton to promote the new campaign and extending the petitions to cover it Producing a hard copy for signatures of non computer folk Organising 3 possible Wheelbarrow Walks for Sept/Dec council meetings and perhaps a walk across the Green Belt – Northumberland Road to Milverton By recruiting family members there is a potential for 1200 people to join in the campaign over the next 4 months, using our campaign theme they can get as involved as they like – and we should encourage them so that the burden doesn’t fall on the few! |
